• 1 Box of Kleenex

• 1 Box quart size Ziploc baggies

• 1 Box gallon size Ziploc baggies

• 1 Roll of paper towel

• 1 package pencils (12 count- Ticonderoga preferred)

• 3 Large Elmer's glue sticks

• 4 Boxes Crayola Crayons (24 count)

• 1 Pair Fiskars blunt scissors

• Backpack- Please find a backpack that can easily hold your child's folder. We prefer not to have backpacks with wheels on them.

• Gym Shoes (non-marking soles)- These will be kept at school. If your child cannot tie his/her shoe laces independently, please provide non-tying athletic shoes.

Morning Meeting

In a caring community of learners, everyone feels....

We begin our kindergarten day with a Morning Meeting.

Morning Meeting consists of four parts:

Morning Message

The Morning Meeting time:

1. Builds community by helping students feel a
sense of significance, belonging, and engagement.

2. Gives students daily practice in the social skills
needed for academic learning throughout the day.

3.Creates a climate of trust and respect which
enables children to feel safe enough to take the risks necessary for
learning.

4. Builds positive relationships between students
and between teachers and students by helping them get to
know one another and develop their capacity for empathy.

High Frequency Sight Words

High frequency words (sight words) are words that students encounter frequently in reading and writing. It is critical that readers and writers develop automaticity (automatic recognition), a skill that leads to fluency. "Students need to be able to read the first 300 Instant Words "instantly" without a moment's hesitation, because these 300 words make up 65% of all written material" (Frye). Comprehension begins to break down when students are focused on trying to decode or sound out the words.
